Frank J. Mrvan—Statement of Candidacy

As the next Congressman representing Indiana’s First Congressional District, Mrvan will focus on job-and family-building initiatives with a priority on:

Families First - Family is the cornerstone of a vibrant Northwest Indiana.  Our success as a region is based on healthy residents provided resources that increase access to healthcare, employment and education.  As Township Trustee, I have built partnerships that strengthen individuals and families by tackling tough issues like childhood sexual abuse, drug addiction, domestic violence, senior nutrition and well-being.  My “No More Secrets” initiative that shines light on the serious problem of childhood sexual abuse led to the passage of a new Indiana law in 2018 regarding child abuse policies and instruction.

Healthcare - We will work on behalf of Northwest Indiana families to protect benefits and pursue legislation that lowers prescription drug costs and decreases the rising cost of healthcare.  No one should have to choose between paying their utility bills and taking their life-saving medications. As far as we’ve come with providing options for individuals and families to get health insurance, we need to do more.

Jobs - a strong economy is realized through a well-trained workforce that is compensated fairly and able to access employment opportunities.  Together, we will work to improve workforce readiness and diversify our economy by maximizing our strategic location along Lake Michigan.  Our labor unions have been fighting for Northwest Indiana’s standard of living, for viable wages for all.  They have helped build our local economy.  Our communities have been made better by these individuals, who not only spend their wages here, but serve as our youth softball coaches, Girl Scout leaders, and community band members.  As Congressman, I will fight to protect them - and a better life for all of us.
